Hahnenkamm gets new boss
The eagerly anticipated General Assembly of the Kitzbüheler Ski Club (K.S.C.) took place Friday 26th June 2009. With 5,700 members, K.S.C. is the largest ski club in Tyrol and the organizer of the Hahnenkamm Races.
Men's team tests provide surprising numbers
Innovation is a key word in Sasha Rearick's vocabulary. As the head coach of the U.S. men's ski team, he knows in order to get (or stay) ahead of the rest of the ski racing world it is critical to think out of the box.
Last week five "of the healthy guys on the team" engaged in what Rearick terms "pre-race testing week."
Running each skier through a battery of tests measuring their physical abilities, the idea was to isolate what works best, individual by individual, for the days preceding racing.
"We have done this type of thing before," Rearick says, "but we haven't tried to individualize it before. We tried to tie specifics to individuals and the interesting part is that we got different responses for different guys."
Wolfpack facing severe budget cuts
The University of Nevada - Reno ski team is facing an uncertain future because of state budget cuts.
According to reports from the Associated Press and the Reno Gazette Journal, the NCAA Division one ski team could be disbanded by 2011.
Street, Mead Lawrence and Will join USOC Hall of Fame
The fans have weighed in.
U.S. Ski Team great Picabo Street, skiing veteran Andrea Mead Lawrence and  Paralympian Sarah Will all will be members of the Class of 2009 to be inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame presented by Allstate, the  U. S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced Tuesday.
The U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame is the only national sports hall of fame that uses fan voting as part of its selection process. This years U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame class is comprised of five Olympians, one Paralympian, one team, as well as three additional individuals: a coach, veteran and a special contributor.
"Andrea, Picabo and Sarah are three of the greatest ski racers of all time," said USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt. "Their accomplishments as athletes have inspired generations of aspiring Olympians. It is a great honor for them, as well as for our sport, to be recognized in the Olympic Hall of Fame."
Miller, Leskinen advance in SuperStars
Both skiers involved in ABC's Super Stars, Bode Miller and freeskiing star Kristi Leskinen, advanced through the second round in the June 30 show, and made some waves doing so.
Miller showed his speed, agility and strategizing talents during the program while Leskinen more than held her own leading her "team" (dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy is her teammate) to a victory in the night's second competition, a long jump into water against a rising tide.
